Raising the Bar

With every edition of the South Florida Legal Guide, we continue to raise the bar for our readers. In this issue, for instance, we are featuring seven of our most Distinguished Attorneys, profiling their professional careers and outstanding contributions to legal, civic and humanitarian organizations.

We have also taken another step forward by profiling five prominent South Florida law firms that are known regionally, nationally and internationally for the quality of their services.  One of the firms, Greenberg Traurig, has followed a truly remarkable path, growing from a three-attorney firm in Miami to become one of the nation’s ten largest law firms. The other four firms have also made important contributions to our legal system, while helping clients that range from Fortune 500 companies to some of most vulnerable people in today’s society.  At a time of economic volatility, we believe our readers can learn important lessons from these five firms’ success stories.

In reviewing our lists of Top Lawyers, Top Law Firms, Top Up & Comers, Top Government Attorneys and Top CPAs and Financial Professionals, I am reminded once again by the high caliber of our professionals in South Florida. In the past few years, our region’s daily newspapers have done an excellent job in uncovering the criminal actions of a handful of attorneys and accounting professionals. This is one of the many reasons that strong journalism is so important to our society. But at the same time, we must remember that only a handful of professionals are drawing the headlines — the vast majority of South Florida attorneys and financial professionals are serving their clients with honesty and integrity to the best of their ability.

Within this issue you will also find our Professional Forum, important articles written by leading professionals on different aspects of law, finance and business, as well as in-depth Profiles of many of our top professionals.

As always, our goal is to serve South Florida’s legal and business community, rather than a general consumer audience. We thank you for reading our growing family of publications and look forward to continuing to serve you in the future.
