BAND AID-STYLE FIXES INCREASE THE BARRIERS TO RECOVER FOR MINOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC SEX TRAFFICKING

B.E.S.T.-BUILDING EMPOWERMENT BY STOPPING TRAFFICKING — is a 501(c) 3 Not for Profit that has extensively trained worldwide the most attorneys and Certified Life Coaches in Anti-Human Trafficking and provides these attorneys and Certified Coaches PRO BONO to assist victims of human trafficking.

Studies have shown that the statistics on the number of minor domestic sex trafficking victims in the United States are not reliable.  Those that have been domestically trafficked experience physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual repercussions from the trauma of sexual exploitation.  Health-related issues follow these symptoms.  B.E.S.T. is the leader in taking action!  Right in the heart of Coconut Grove, Florida, B.E.S.T. has opened its B.E.S.T. OUTREACH CENTER, where survivors are provided PRO BONO Attorneys, Certified Life Coaches, Psychologists, Case Managers, Medical Doctors, Lab Testing and Prescriptions.  In addition, Clothing and knapsacks filled with essentials are provided and appropriate arrangements for housing needs and safety are immediately arranged.

The themes of abandonment and disruption are central to the narratives of minor victims of domestic sex trafficking.  Their need to develop healthy attachments with peers, adults and family members, whenever possible, is important; however most important is their need to feel safe, both physically and emotionally.  This creates challenges and limitations in serving this population.

Crucial to understand is that the short-term nature of a safe house or stay presents more problems and provides a lot of Band-Aids.  Across the board, it is clear that services provided to this population are inadequate and calling a short term shelter a safe house because it has window dressing, does not change that it is a replica of a foster home where so many problems exist and are not being addressed.  History has shown that this type of setting allows for the flow in and out of these victims and re-traumatizes them because they do not have the much needed long-term housing with professionals trained in the area of Anti-Human Trafficking and without providing them the attorneys so that they may speak freely about their situation and not be interrogated without their attorney present.

Research has shown that working with this population needs a minimum length of stay at an appropriate place for at least 18 months.  The survivors themselves echo this.   The survivors themselves continually state that when they work with other survivors they continually have to deal with the resurfacing of emotions and traumatic experiences and the desire to be lured back to The Life.

B.E.S.T. takes further action!  B.E.S.T. provides the much needed life learning skills where with their Case Manager and Certified Life Coach, and trained professionals, the survivors go to the B.E.S.T. Lifestyle Center, also located in Coconut Grove, Florida, and are taught how to cook, go on an interview, take the GED and college entrance exams, and other skills necessary for their continuing productive lives.  Research has shown that a program need not employ survivors, but more important is for all professional staff to be well trained in understanding sexual exploitation, the realities of prostitution and sex trafficking, the methods of recruitment, the physical/psychological/spiritual impact of the trauma, potential methods for exit, an overview of youth development programming, and appropriate boundaries and healthy working relationships.

B.E.S.T. TAKES ACTION ON ALL OF THE ABOVE!

B.E.S.T. trains worldwide on all of the areas in Anti-Human Trafficking and has served as expert witnesses in cases involving Human Trafficking.  B.E.S.T. has the only globally Accredited Certified Life Coach Program for Anti-Human Trafficking which is 154 hour program.  B.E.S.T. provides Pro Bono Attorneys paired with the Certified Life Coaches and works with law enforcement to provide accurate and accountable information to proceed with prosecutions against traffickers, while at all times keeping the rights of the victims protected!

B.E.S.T. has a full-curriculum GLOBAL PREVENTION PROGRAM that is a school-based mentoring program on Anti-Human Trafficking from pre-school through High Schools and then onto Colleges and Law School.  The upper level school age program includes the Jezebel and John School Curriculum!
